1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using lawpractice.ca ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Site. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

2. Nature of the Service

Law Practice is an online directory service that lists information about lawyers practising in Canada. The Site is provided for informational purposes only.

• The Site does not provide legal advice of any kind.
• Nothing on the Site creates a lawyer-client or solicitor-client relationship between you and any listed lawyer or between you and Law Practice.
• Listing in this directory does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or referral of any lawyer.
• Lawyer profiles contain publicly available professional information and are not independently verified by Law Practice.
• Always confirm a lawyer's current standing and credentials directly with their provincial Law Society before retaining them.

3. Not Legal Advice

The information on this Site, including the "Know Your Rights" section, blog articles, practice area descriptions, Canadian Laws directory summaries, and any other content, is general information only and does not constitute legal advice. Legal matters are fact-specific and jurisdiction-specific. Laws change frequently. You should consult a qualified lawyer licensed in your province or territory for advice about your particular situation. Law Practice expressly disclaims any liability arising from reliance on information provided on this Site.

4. Accuracy of Listings

Law Practice makes reasonable efforts to maintain accurate directory information but does not warrant the completeness, accuracy, or currency of any listing. Lawyer information including addresses, phone numbers, specialties, and firm affiliations may change. Law Practice is not responsible for errors or omissions in listings or for any loss arising from reliance on listing information. Always verify a lawyer's current status with their provincial Law Society.

5. User Accounts and Reviews

You may create an account to submit reviews of lawyers. By submitting a review you represent that:

• The review reflects your honest, first-hand experience.
• The review does not contain false, defamatory, or misleading statements.
• You are not the lawyer being reviewed, their employee, associate, or a direct competitor.
• The review does not disclose confidential, privileged, or identifying information about any legal matter.
• You understand that reviews are displayed publicly on lawyer profile pages and may be read by the reviewed lawyer and members of the public.

Law Practice reserves the right to remove reviews that violate these terms, that are potentially defamatory, or that are otherwise inappropriate, without notice. Submitting a false or defamatory review may expose you to civil liability under Canadian defamation law.

6. Contact Forms

Contact forms on lawyer profile pages are provided as a convenience feature. Submitting a contact form does not guarantee that the lawyer will receive your message, does not create a lawyer-client or solicitor-client relationship, and does not constitute retaining legal services. Always confirm receipt directly with the lawyer's office. Do not include confidential or privileged information in any contact form submission.

7. Profile Claims

Lawyers may submit a claim to verify ownership of their profile. By submitting a claim, you represent that you are the lawyer named on the profile or their duly authorised representative. Submitting a false or fraudulent claim constitutes misrepresentation and may result in permanent removal from the directory, notification to the relevant provincial Law Society, and potential civil or criminal liability. Law Practice reserves the right to verify claims and to reject or revoke any claim at its sole discretion.

8. Lawyer Listings and Law Society Compliance

Lawyers who submit listing requests or claim profiles are solely responsible for ensuring their profile information is accurate and complies with their provincial or territorial Law Society's rules on advertising, marketing, and professional conduct. Law Practice does not review listings for compliance with Law Society rules. Lawyers are responsible for ensuring their directory presence complies with all applicable professional conduct obligations, including rules on fee advertising, specialization designations, and testimonials.

9. Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), S.C. 2010, c. 23. Any commercial electronic messages we send will include our identification, contact information, and an unsubscribe mechanism. You may withdraw consent to receive commercial electronic messages at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.

10. Intellectual Property

All content on this Site, including text, design, graphics, and software, is the property of Law Practice or its licensors and is protected by Canadian copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without express written permission. Lawyer profile information sourced from public records remains subject to applicable law.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Law Practice and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Site or any content thereon, including reliance on lawyer listings, reviews, or general information. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Canadian law, including consumer protection legislation.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Law Practice and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Site, your submission of reviews or claims, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section limits your rights under applicable consumer protection legislation.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Check this page periodically for updates. For material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
